投稿アカデミー（8）Lay summaryの書き方

レイサマリー（Lay Summary）は、プレーンランゲージサマリー（PLS: Plain Language Summary）とも言われ、科学論文や臨床試験結果報告書など学術的なドキュメントを、その分野の知識がない一般の人にも分かりやすいよう、専門用語を使わずに平易な文で要約したものです。

ジャーナリストや研究資金提供者などに研究内容を伝えることができれば、影響力も高まりますし、研究資金を確保することにもつながります。つまりレイサマリーは「研究と社会をつなぐ手段」なのです。そのため平易で日常的な表現で書き、専門用語をできるだけ避け、どうしても必要な場合には説明をつけるようにします。 また、受動態ではなく能動態で書かれていると分かりやすくなります。

書き方のtip

1.記載する内容

「問題提起」「方法」「結論」「便益」成果がどのように役立つのかなどをまとめる

2.簡潔に書く

ひとつの文を15単語くらいで短く書く。可能な限り従属節は避ける。文字制限は投稿規定によって異なりますが、抄録よりずっと短いです。

3. 専門的な単語ではなく、日常的な言葉を使う

科学的な用語を簡単に説明する。例えば、「neurons」の代わりに「nerves」を使ったり、「アポトーシスapoptosis」の代わりに「細胞死cell death」を使ったりする。

4. シンプルな言葉・表現を使う

5.能動態を使う

例

6.単純な英語で書くといっても、ジャーナリスティックな決まり文句ではなく、トピックに関するリサーチに焦点を当てましょう。

Lay summary（悪い例）: Lower back pain is a chronic problem affecting many millions of people.
Lay summary（良い例）: The latest data from the NHS show that the leading cause of disability in the UK is now lower back pain: three out of four people will suffer from it at some point in their lives.

7.一般的な語彙を使いましょう
